An app with no website: when you do not need a storefront

A common misconception is that you need an online store before you can launch a mobile app. You do not. A mobile app for a store with no website runs on its own: a catalogue export — YML or CSV — is enough. A website plays no part in this setup at all.

Who this suits

  • Retailers who never built an online store: a website is expensive to keep, while an app pays for itself on repeat purchases.
  • Businesses whose site runs on an unusual or bespoke CMS — there is no integration for it, but the app is still needed.
  • Companies already taking orders by phone and in messengers: the app simply lifts that load.

How it works

You send a catalogue export and we set up the refresh schedule — prices and stock are pulled from the same file and never go stale. Orders from the app arrive in the MobiusApp panel: you can see them, process them, export them, or collect them programmatically through the Merchant API and webhooks. There is no second system to maintain.

Honest about the limits

An export is a snapshot of the catalogue, not a live connection. Between refreshes, stock can drift from reality: if an item sells out within the hour, the app finds out at the next refresh. For most businesses that is fine — the schedule can be as frequent as you need. But if your stock changes by the minute, an export will not keep up — then the back office should be connected directly over the Merchant API, which pushes a change the moment it happens.

Where to start

Send YML or CSV and we will build a demo in 1 day showing the app on your own products. From there you pick the solution for your industry and add a loyalty programme and push. The subscription is on the pricing page, from $199 per month.

FAQ

Common questions about an app with no website

Can an app really launch with no website at all?

Yes. The app runs on its own from a catalogue export — YML or CSV. A website plays no part in the setup.

What format does the export need to be in?

YML or CSV. Products, categories and specifications come from it, along with prices and stock, which refresh on a schedule from the same file.

Where do orders go if there is no website and no back office?

Into the MobiusApp panel: the order is visible there and can be processed, exported, or collected programmatically through the Merchant API and webhooks.

How current is stock when running from an export?

As current as the file. An export is a snapshot, not a live connection: if an item sells out within the hour, the app finds out at the next refresh. The schedule is set to match your pace of sales.

What if stock changes by the minute?

Then an export will not keep up: it is a snapshot, and between refreshes the numbers drift. In that case the back office should push changes as they happen, over the Merchant API.

What do you need to build a demo?

Just the export. Send YML or CSV and we will build the app on your own products in one day.
